Past Workshops

The third Privacy Preserving IR Workshop (PIR2016) will be held July 21st, 2016 at Pisa, Italy, with the SIGIR 2016 conference. This workshop will bring together an interdisciplinary group of researchers and practitioners in Information Retrieval, Privacy and Security. It will be a full day workshop that includes activities such as paper presentations, poster sessions, multiple panel discussions, and social events.

In the past two years of SIGIR (2014 and 2015), we have run the privacy-preserving IR workshop exploring and understanding the privacy and security risks in information retrieval. This year, we are holding this workshop again to continue the effort of connecting the two disciplines of IR and privacy and security.

In 2016, the organizers form a team spanning across IR, Privacy, and the government sector. We target on three themes: differential privacy and IR dataset release, privacy in search and browsing, and privacy in social media. We will create panels with researchers from both fields on these three themes, as well as invite industry speakers for real-world challenges.

Our goals of this workshop including (1) bringing together the two research fields, (2) yielding fruitful collaborations, and (3) hopefully a new research paper session in next year’s SIGIR main conference.
